Hyderabad: Surgeons at the Gleneagles Global Hospital, Lakdikapul, have revived a non-functional right index finger of a Sudanese military man, who had sustained five bullet wounds, lost the functioning of his right index finger, among other injuries.

The 32-year-old-soldier from Sudan was shot at in Khartoum and was airlifted for medical attention to a hospital in Egypt. On recovering from other serious injuries, the soldier was operated on his right index finger, but due the complexity of the case, he was left with a non-functional index finger and was unable to bend the finger at all.

Surgeons said that the procedure on the right index finger will enable the soldier to return to his duties in the Sudanese army.

Orthopaedic and spine surgeon, Dr. Venkat Ramana said “The patient was admitted to our hospital on September 27. We were informed that his case was rejected at several hospitals and that’s why we decided to take it up with utmost care. We ensured no minute details were missed while performing the surgery to restore the function of the index finger.”

The procedure was performed by Dr Venkat Ramana along with Dr. K Saketh, Sports Surgery and Regenerative Orthopaedics. Senior Plastic and Cosmetic Surgeon, Dr MV Naveen Reddy also conducted a cheekbone reconstruction surgery on the left side of the soldier’s face.
