Hyderabad: The 60th IGFR World Golf Championship officially teed off today in Hyderabad, marking the first-ever hosting of this prestigious global Rotary golfing event in India and Asia. The week-long championship (November 1–7) brings together 180 Rotarian golfers from 24 countries, along with 50 international guests, to celebrate Rotary’s enduring spirit of friendship, service, and fellowship through sport.
Hosted by the South Asian Fellowship of Golfing Rotarians (SAFGR) in collaboration with the International Golfing Fellowship of Rotarians (IGFR), the event was inaugurated with a grand opening ceremony at Taj Krishna, attended by Rotarians, dignitaries, and international guests.
Telangana Minister for Tourism, Jupally Krishna Rao, said, “We are not just inaugurating a sporting event; we are celebrating a series of historic firsts. The 60th IGFR World Championship marks a diamond jubilee of a legacy—and the first-ever in India and Asia. Telangana is proud to host this global fellowship. We invite the world to discover our culture, hospitality, and growing golf tourism potential.”
The competition rounds will be played at three prominent venues: Hyderabad Golf Club, Boulder Hills Golf & Country Club, and Vooty Golf County, positioning India as an emerging destination for world-class golf events. Beyond the competition, the championship will also celebrate India’s culture and hospitality through events such as an Indian Mela, a royal evening at Falaknuma Palace, and city excursions for accompanying guests.
PDG Parag Sheth, Chair of SAFGR, commented, “Hosting the 60th IGFR World Cup in India is a proud moment for our Rotary family. This event celebrates friendship, fellowship, and service, and we are honoured to welcome Rotarians from around the world to Hyderabad.”
Live scoring and updates are available on the official 60 IGFR WC App.
Founded in 1964, IGFR promotes global fellowship through golf. SAFGR, established in 2015-16, now represents over 570 members across the region.
