Hyderabad: Hyderabad-based pharmaceuticals company Dr Reddy’s Laboratories said on Tuesday that the locally manufactured Covid-19 Sputnik V vaccine will be available from September-October period, while the availability of imported vaccine doses will ease from August onwards for vaccination. The arrival of doses was impacted due to the spike in cases in Russia.

M V Ramana, CEO, Branded Markets (India & Emerging Markets), Dr Reddy’s, said, “The local manufacturers of Sputnik V vaccine are currently in the process of technology absorption and scale up, and we expect that the vaccine will be available from September-October period.”

Dr Reddy’s, which has the marketing rights for Sputnik V vaccine in India, will sell the first 125 million people doses (250 million vials). “We will also be selling the vaccines made by Serum as well,” he informed. Russian Direct Investment Fund has tied up with six Indian pharma companies to manufacture the Sputnik V vaccine.

The company, which soft launched the vaccine on May 14 has commenced the commercial launch this month and expects to ramp up vaccination from August onwards. So far, the vaccine has been launched in about 80 cities and towns across India and over 2.5 lakh people have been administered the jab.

On the trials of Sputnik V (two-dose vaccine) in adolescents, Ramana said the trials have commenced in Russia for those aged between 12 and 18 years, and they are expected to be completed by October.

The company which recently began its commercial launch of 2-deoxy-D-glucose (2-DG), an oral drug for use as an adjunct therapy for hospitalised Covid-19 patients has so far produced 4.5 lakh sachets.
