Hyderabad: Shaina Manimuthu (Under-15) and Diksha Sudhakar (Under-17) clinched gold medals in their respective categories, helping India achieve its best-ever performance at the Badminton Asia Under-17 & Under-15 Championships 2025 on Sunday.

In the Under-15 girls’ singles final, Shaina defeated Japan’s Chiharu Tomita 21-14, 22-20. Following her triumph, Diksha Sudhakar overcame compatriot Lakshya Rajesh 21-16, 21-9 in the U17 girls’ singles final.

These impressive victories ensured that India’s contingent would return home with two golds, one silver, and two bronze medals.

The last time India won two gold medals at this event was in 2013 when Siril Verma took the U15 boys’ singles title, and Chirag Shetty & MR Arjun clinched the U17 boys’ doubles crown.

On Sunday, Shaina became the fourth Indian girl to win the U15 title, dominating Tomita in the opening game before holding off a late challenge in the second game. She wrapped up the match in 44 minutes.

Later, Diksha made history by becoming the first Indian girl to win the U17 singles title, dominating the 27-minute all-Indian final.

Jagsher Singh Khanggura and the mixed doubles team of Jangjeet Singh Kajla and Jananika Ramesh won bronze medals on Saturday.
