New Delhi: India on Thursday welcomed Japan’s recent decision to review its framework governing the transfer of defence equipment and technology, and asserted that defence and security cooperation is an important pillar of the partnership between the two countries. Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said this while responding to a query during his weekly media briefing here.

“India welcomes Japan’s review of the Three Principles on Transfer of Defence Equipment and Technology. Defence and security cooperation remains an important pillar of the India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership,” he said.

As part of the Joint Declaration on Security Cooperation between India and Japan, both sides have committed to increasing practical cooperation in the interest of their national security and continued economic dynamism, Jaiswal said.

“This includes promotion and facilitation of technological and industrial collaboration between the government entities and private sector stakeholders for resilience in critical sectors to national security. So, welcome the steps that have been announced by Japan,” he added.
