India win three more medals at U20 World Championships as Mansi Lather takes silver
India added three more medals at the U20 World Wrestling Championships in Slovakia, with Mansi Lather winning silver and Tanvi Gundesh Magdum and Komal taking bronze. Earlier, Kajal Dhochak claimed gold, while Tanu Sharma and Savita secured silver medals.
Slovakia: The Indian women’s wrestling contingent added three more medals to their U20 World Championships tally in Slovakia, securing one silver and two bronze medals on the latest day of competition.
In the 68kg category, Mansi Lather fought a tightly contested gold medal match against China’s Chenling Song. Mansi narrowly lost the defensive bout 1-2, earning a well-deserved silver medal for India.
India found further success in the bronze medal playoffs. In the 57kg division, Tanvi Gundesh Magdum delivered a strong performance to defeat Canada’s Agnia Krakovska 10-4. Shortly after, Komal secured a 5-2 victory over Hungary’s Eda Balazs in the 59kg category, ensuring both wrestlers took home bronze medals.
Earlier on Friday, women’s wrestling sensation Kajal continued her incredible trajectory on the global stage, striking gold in the 76kg category to lead the Indian contingent’s charge.
Alongside Kajal’s historic triumph, India secured two crucial silver medals through Tanu Sharma and Savita on an action-packed day of Women’s Wrestling (WW).
18-year-old Kajal Dhochak, competed in the 76kg championship bout. She delivered a masterclass against China’s Jingru Sun, registering a flawless 7-0 victory on points (VPO) to lift the world title.This triumph cements her status as one of India’s brightest generational prospects, adding to a phenomenal resume that already includes the 2024 U17 World Championship (69kg) and the 2025 U20 World Championship (72kg) titles.
Seamlessly transitioning to heavier weight classes year after year, Kajal’s sheer dominance on the world stage, which also saw her win gold at the U23 Asian Championships and the Budapest Ranking Series earlier this year, proves she is a premier force in international wrestling.
In the 72kg category, Tanu Sharma put up a resilient fight in the gold medal match against Japan’s Chisato Yoshida. Despite a close tactical battle, Tanu narrowly fell short, suffering a 3-5 defeat on points (VPO1) to secure a well-earned silver medal for India.
Similarly, in the 62kg division, Savita faced a formidable opponent in Japan’s Sakura Onishi in her championship final. The Indian grappler sustained a 2-12 defeat by technical superiority (VSU1), settling for silver after an otherwise stellar tournament campaign.
As the U20 World Championships head into their final stretch, the Indian contingent remains in strong contention for further podium finishes.
The Indian contingent will next be in action in the remaining men’s freestyle (FS) categories: 57kg, 65kg, 79kg, and 92kg.
