HYDERABAD: Indian Arrows Women Juniors began the 2024-25 IWL 2 Final Round with a 2-0 victory against Roots FC at the Duler Stadium, in Goa, on Friday. The two goals came in the second half.

Goals from Anushka Kumari (59’) and Divyani Linda (81’) secured the three points for the Arrows.

The Arrows had lost 0-1 against Roots in their Group Stage encounter, earlier in the tournament, but they came out with all the intention to earn the win this time around, as Anushka Kumari dictated terms from the middle.

The Arrows needed an early save from goalkeeper Munni to keep out Roots forward Irengbam Geetarani Devi’s shot out of the goal. Arrows responded in kind, with Anita Dungdung and Divyani having their efforts saved.

Divyani had the best opportunity of the first half, when a cross from the left by Shveta Rani headed to the former, who was unmarked at the goalmouth. Her header, however, looped over.

The Arrows upped its game in the second half, and Anushka soon put them in the lead just minutes ahead of the hour mark. A hopeful header from Abhista Basnett landed at Anushka’s feet, as she weaved into the box and blasted the ball into the top corner.

With a little over 10 minutes of regulation time left, Divyani secured the three points. Anita found substitute Reema Kumari with a low cross from the left. The latter’s shot struck the upright, but Divyani was on hand to tap it in.

The result: Indian Arrows Women Jrs 2 (Anushka Kumari 59’, Divyani Linda 81’) beat Roots FC 0
