Hyderabad: In yet another international recognition for his valuable services, Kolkata-based amateur radio (ham radio) enthusiast Ambarish Nag Biswas has been selected for the 2025 ARRL International Humanitarian Award.
The American Radio Relay League (ARRL), the National Association for Amateur Radio, is the largest membership association of amateur radio enthusiasts, based in Newington, Connecticut, in the United States. Associated with ham radio activities in almost all countries of the world, including NASA, the ARRL recognises and honours radio amateurs who, through amateur radio, promote the welfare of mankind.
Biswas, the secretary of the West Bengal Radio Club, and who goes by the call sign VU2JFA, was chosen for the award by the ARRL Board of Directors for unselfishly promoting the welfare of mankind and helping individuals understand the importance of collective welfare.
The ARRL said Biswas founded the West Bengal Radio Club with a focus on community service in economically challenged areas of India. He ensures communication and assistance in rural regions during natural disasters and also assists and leads search and rescue operations to locate and reunite missing persons, especially during large religious gatherings.
Speaking to Telangana Today, Biswas thanked the ARRL Board of Directors for selecting him for the award and said the recognition was the result of a team effort. It may be noted that Biswas recently won the first-ever Amateur Radio Hero Award presented by Orlando HamCation 2026, one of the largest annual conventions of radio amateurs in the world.
