Indian team finished fifth after round robin behind USA1, Denmark, Poland and France. In the final playoffs, India beat highly rated USA1 in quarterfinal and France in the semifinal. Thus the Indian seniors team made history by reaching the final for the first time ever.
India took on an equally well-decorated Polish team in the finals. Poland had no fewer than five former world champions. India fought hard, but Poland came off with a 45-point win over six sets and 96 deals.
The World Bridge championship, popularly known as Bermuda Bowl, is actually a contest for four trophies with Bermuda Bowl Open being the oldest.
The other three are the d’Orsi trophy team championship for the Seniors (aged 60 ), the Venice Cup for women and the Wuhan cup for Mixed teams (where the pairing is always man-woman).
