Indore Metro route to expand from 6 km to 17 km; services on extended stretch from Sunday

Indore Metro’s operational route will expand from six kilometres to 17 kilometres with the inauguration of a new phase on Saturday. Commercial services on the extended stretch will begin Sunday, covering 16 stations and improving connectivity between residential and commercial areas

Indore: The metro rail route in Madhya Pradesh’s commercial capital Indore will be expanded from the existing 6 kilometres to 17 kilometres with the inauguration of a fresh phase on Saturday by Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal in the presence of Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, an official said. Commercial operations for passengers on the extended route will begin from Sunday, the Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MPMRCL) official said.

“The first metro train on the extended route will depart from both ends at 9 am daily, while the last service will run at 7 pm. Trains will be available every 15 minutes, with more than 80 trips scheduled daily,” the official informed. At present, Indore Metro’s commercial operations are being conducted on a six-kilometre stretch between Gandhi Nagar and Super Corridor-3 stations. After the expansion, the metro will run between Gandhi Nagar and Malviya Nagar Chauraha, covering 17 km.

The extended service will cover 16 stations, providing greater connectivity between major commercial and residential areas, the official said. Work on the 31.32-km metro rail corridor in the city has been underway since 2019, though the project has faced hurdles over the years in densely populated residential and commercial areas. Some residents have opposed it, claiming construction activities would disrupt daily life and affect their businesses.
