Hyderabad: Infighting continues unabated in the Congress party, especially with the High Command set to appoint a new president for the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) shortly.
With the internal quarreling reaching new heights, the TPCC Disciplinary Action Committee issued warning to activists and leaders that action would be initiated against those making derogatory comments against the senior leaders and party affairs.
While, a few BC leaders in the party are insisting that a BC community member should be made the new TPCC president, party sources informed that names of Sangareddy MLA Jagga Reddy, former Minister D. Sridhar Babu, Malkajgiri MP Revanth Reddy, MP Komatireddy Venkat Reddy are also being considered for the post.
However, a section of leaders are of the opinion that since last two presidents (K. Jana Reddy and N. Uttam Kumar Reddy) hailing from Reddy community, party High Command may opt for other communities. More so, if a leader from Reddy community is appointed as the new TPCC president, there is the fear of losing the confidence of BC and other communities members in the party.
This apart, a few leaders are stressing that only senior leaders and those who have been loyal to the party since long, should be made the new TPCC president, failing which there could be unrest in the party leadership.
Amidst all these quarrels and arguments, TPCC Disciplinary Action Committee held an emergency meeting under the Chairmanship of M. Kodanda Reddy on Monday and warned of stern action against those trying to malign the party.
The Committee took cognisance of several complaints, acts of indiscipline and making derogatory comments on party affairs and senior leaders.
The Committee said when the party was passing through challenging times, some self-styled leaders have been indulging in anti-party activities, damaging the image and credibility of the party.
Kodanda Reddy particularly raised serious objection and insisted on stern action on those responsible for making a phone call to former MP V. Hanumantha Rao and abusing him.
There is a platform to raise any objections or make any suggestions against party decisions and affairs. This type of indiscipline will not be tolerated, he said in a statement.
