Hyderabad: India reached a grim milestone on Sunday when it became the third country in the world to reach the 3 lakh-mark in the number of deaths due to Covid-19. Though the Covid-related deaths are declining consistently, being the country with third most number of fatalities paint a disheartening picture.
While the United States of America was the first country to record 3 lakh deaths, Brazil became the second to touch that mark.
With a population of 1,378.6 million (130 crores), India on May 24 recorded 2.95 deaths/million people, which translates to approximately 4065 death. Whereas Brazil, with a population of over 210 million (21 crore), recorded 8.95 deaths/million people on the same day, translating to about 1900 deaths.
USA on the other hand, which has a population of 330 million (33 crore) witnessed 1.62 deaths/per million people with about 535 deaths on May 24.
