Hyderabad: The global information technology repertoire of Hyderabad is all set to expand further, with IT major Infosys joining large multi-national companies like Google, Amazon, Apple and Microsoft, in expanding their operations here. These tech giants, by establishing their largest centres outside of their headquarters in Hyderabad and also some of Asia’s largest development centres here, are doing some cutting-edge technology and innovative work.

Now, Infosys is looking to start construction of its expanded facility in Pocharam from next year. The expanded facility will add more software development blocks, food courts, auditoriums and multi-level car parking and is set to come up at a cost of Rs 2,500 crore. After being awarded environmental clearance (EC) for expansion of the Pocharam campus in April, the firm is keen to start construction next year.

“The investment for expansion of the campus stands as mentioned earlier and the company is keen to make this expansion possible. Keeping the current pandemic situation in mind, the company is currently re-looking at our business expansion plans and we are hopeful that by year-end we will have clarity on the business environment. Post that, by next year we should be re-starting the construction of the new building through which we plan to accommodate 50,000-60,000 employees in total,” an official source close to the know-how of this development told ‘Telangana Today’.

Infosys had submitted an online proposal in February this year to obtain EC for the proposed construction and in April, the State Environment Impact Assessment Authority (SEIAA) approved the EC. As per the proposal, the company plans to construct more software development blocks, food courts, auditoriums, and multi-level car parking on 329.84 acres. Through this expansion, the total built-up area of the campus will increase from 3.87 lakh sqm to 7.74 lakh sqm. In the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh, the company had acquired 447.07 acres in 2008 in Ghatkesar mandal of Medchal-Malkajgiri district.

The company has six high-rises in its current facility dedicated to software development. “The company has been given seven years to complete the project. The MNC is keen to expand its office space in Hyderabad and has got all clearances required. The facility already employs more than 20,000 people,” the source added.
