Hyderabad: Infrastructure facilities in all government schools would be upgraded through the State government’s ambitious programme – ‘Mana Ooru-Mana Badi’, said Education Minister P Sabitha Indra Reddy here on Saturday. To improve infrastructure and quality of education in the government schools, the State government has allocated Rs.7,289.54 crore in three phases over a period of three years. Under the first phase, the programme will be launched in 9,123 covering 35 per cent of the total schools benefiting around 13 lakh students during the current academic year 2021-22.

“We will spend over Rs.3,490 crore under the first phase,” the Minister said during a discussion on budget in the State Assembly. Twelve components have been identified for proving infrastructure facilities in schools. Construction of washroom with continuous supply of water, drinking water facility, furniture to students and the staff, repairing slabs and classrooms, painting of the school buildings, kitchen, and digital and additional classrooms among other amenities would be provided for the convenience of the students in schools.

“There might be problems in implementing the programme initially but the ultimate aim is to bring a change and improve amenities to students,” she explained. After Covid, as many as three lakh students from private schools joined the government schools and most of them were from English medium schools. Since most parents were evincing interest to join their children in the government schools, the department has laid special focus on not only improving facilities to students but also imparting teaching in English medium.

She said separate training classes were also conducted for school teachers. Referring to higher education, the Minister said new courses including ITeS, banking etc., were also introduced to fulfill the demand in the market.

After the announcement of 80,039 jobs, the department has also given instructions to officials in all universities to commence coaching classes and help the students. Plans have also been chalked out to make Koti Women’s College into a university for women and necessary funds were also allocated.

To a question from CLP leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka on increasing fee structure by the private school managements, the Minister said a report prepared by the Cabinet sub-committee on the issue would be submitted to the Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao for perusal.
