Challenging times such as the Covid-19 pandemic times call for an equally challenging and innovative engagement of students especially during the summer vacation when movement restrictions are in place.

The challenges vary from accessibility to need-based summer courses, maintaining of the physical and emotional health of the students and most importantly keeping the students productively engaged without losing the fun element of the summer vacation.

Teachers at DPS Nacharam both of CBSE and Cambridge wing sprang into action and designed the holiday tasks keeping in mind the above challenges aligning the tasks with the NEP 2020 guidelines and with minimal parental support. The driving mantra was skill development with fun.

The tasks at different levels –from preprimary to secondary school mainly focused on developing different skills necessary for the overall development of a learner. Academic skills such as reading, speaking, listening, puzzles and art-integrated activities involving English, Math and Science concepts, Life skills such as spending time with grandparents, helping the parents in the household chores, expressing gratitude to community helpers and frontline workers etc. were part of the age-appropriate holiday tasks planned at various levels

To emphasize the importance of physical and mental health and wellness during these trying times, the school organized webinars for the students, parents and the teachers by noted Doctors and Psychologists.

Added to this, the PET department of the school also designed a schedule of virtual summer camp activities such as Aerobics, Chess, Yoga and Rubik’s Cube to keep the students physically and mentally fit. Environmental conservation is also the focal point of the various tasks planned for the summer activities.

Some of them are documentation of planting and nurturing of a plant, recycling and reusing the waste by making bird feeders out of plastic bottles, broken pots etc. The activities also encouraged students to use various applications available online so as to enhance their 21st century skills.
