Hyderabad: Education Minister P Sabitha Indra Reddy urged the municipal authorities to insist on the installation of surveillance cameras at the time of layout approval.

The Minister said this while inaugurating 116 surveillance cameras under the Community CCTV initiative at New Royal Colony, Bismillah Colony, Sadat Nagar and surroundings in Balapur area on Wednesday. The total estimated cost of the project is around Rs 43.3 lakh and donations were received from GAIL, TCS and 25 private donors.

Stressing that “one camera is equal to a hundred policemen”, the Minister appreciated the role of Rachakonda Police in the maintenance of law and order, and their services during the pandemic and the recent Hyderabad rains.

When she said the municipal authorities need to insist on the condition of CCTV installation at the time of layout approval, Badangpet and Meerpet Mayors and Jalpally Municipality Chairperson consented for same. Rachakonda Police Commissioner Mahesh Bhagwat inaugurated the renovated Command Control Room, staff restroom and other facilities in the Balapur police station premises.

The Commissioner insisted upon the quality and maintenance of CCTVs in order to make them work for a longer time and also asked them to build goodwill by giving qualitative service to communities and make more business besides being responsible citizens.

He also cautioned vendors not to use unbranded, substandard materials and also warned action against those using such material, and added that a written agreement is must between the parties whenever they take up any community project.

There are nearly 1.4 lakh surveillance cameras across the Rachakonda Police Commissionerate as of now and officials look forward to installing more cameras in days to come.
