Installation of Rajiv Gandhi statue insult to Telangana’s identity: Vemula
BRS leader Vemula Prashanth Reddy pointed out that Rajiv Gandhi had no connection to the formation of Telangana and his statue has been installed in a location earmarked for the statue of Telangana Talli
Hyderabad: Former Minister and senior BRS leader Vemula Prashanth Reddy termed the installation of former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi‘s statue in front of the Dr BR Ambedkar Telangana State Secretariat, as an insult to Telangana’s self-respect and identity. He pointed out that Rajiv Gandhi had no connection to the formation of Telangana and his statue has been installed in a location earmarked for the statue of Telangana Talli.
Speaking to mediapersons at Telangana Bhavan here on Monday, Prashanth Reddy said former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao envisioned the creation of a tourist spot dedicated to Telangana Talli, with a grand statue symbolising the spirit and struggle of the people who fought for statehood. The surrounding area was planned for developing landmark constructions to remember those associated with the Telangana statehood movement, with the 125 feet statue of Dr BR Ambedkar, the Amara Jyothi martyrs’ memorial and also the Telangana Talli statue.
“But Chief Minister Revanth Reddy prioritised pleasing his Delhi bosses over the sentiments of people of Telangana,” he said. He argued that the move was also a diversion tactics by the Congress, to distract people from its unfulfilled promises. But the people will soon reject this government,” he added.
He urged the Telangana intellectuals to make the Congress leadership to reconsider its decision. He reiterated that once BRS returns to power, steps will be taken to restore the honour of Telangana Talli and correct the insult to the State’s history.
