Mancherial: A gang of inter-State pseudo Maoists, allegedly involved in kidnappings and extortions, was busted by Mancherial police on Friday with the arrest of nine gang members, including a former member of Maoist party. A country-made pistol, one live round, two toy pistols, a car, a two-wheeler, four walkie-talkies, 50 letter pads of Maoist party and two swords were recovered.
Addressing media in Bellampalli, Ramagundam Commissioner of Police S Chandrasekhar Reddy said that the arrested were Thelukunta Bixapathi (46), a former member of banned Maoist party and Vadlakonda Raj Kumar (27), Mohd Matheen Ali (34), M Pradeep Kumar (32) Ragula Rajeshekhar (27), Tunga Kranthi Kumar (31), Puneeth Bharath (25), Mohd Imran Khan (29) and Mohd Afzal. Another accused Ragula Nani alias Nani was still at large.
During interrogation, Bixapathi confessed to planning kidnaps of businessmen and realtors and extortion. They kidnapped Dasari Anji Babu of Bellampalli in the third week of September and terrorised him using fake pistols. Anji Babu paid Rs 1.50 lakh to the gang in two phases. He approached police when the members continued to harass him seeking additional funds. The Commissioner commended Bellampalli Assistant Commissioner of Police Adla Mahesh, Bellampalli Rural Inspector K Jagadish, Thallagurijala Sub-Inspector B Sammaiah, Nennal SI Ch Ravi Kiran and several members of the special teams for nabbing the pseudo naxals.
