Hyderabad: The inter-State river water dispute between Telangana State and Andhra Pradesh seems headed for a flash point with the Telangana police stepping up security deployment at both Nagarjunasagar and Jurala projects even as the AP police lined up their security personnel at Pulichintala project on Thursday.
Telangana police closed the road to the hydel power plant at Nagrjunasagar with barbed wire fencing. They also intensified vehicle checking at the State border following intelligence inputs that AP leaders were planning to stage protests at the project sites. A huge number of police have been deployed at Nagarjunasagar and Pulichinthala projects.
The police also restricted movement of vehicles near the Jurala project in Jogulamba Gadwal district. As a result, people in Gadwal, Atmakur and Makthal are unable to travel from the project.
The police officials are requesting people not to schedule any visits to the site in view of the restrictions imposed at the project. A police picket was also posted at the project main gate to restrict entry of vehicular movement.
On receiving information that AP was planning to deploy its police near Pulichinthala project, 250 police personnel of Telangana have been stationed at Achampet police station.
