Khammam: An intermediate first-year student allegedly attempted to die by suicide by jumping from the top of the college building. The incident took place on Friday at the Social Welfare Girls’ Gurukul Junior College in Bonakal mandal headquarters.
The student, Tudum Sameera of Madapuram village in Mudigonda mandal, was safe but sustained multiple fractures. Sameera had gone out on Friday morning while classes were still on, saying that she was going to the washroom. However, she went to the third floor of the building, unlocked the gate there with the key she had and went up. She allegedly jumped towards the Rythu Vedika behind the building. Gram panchayat ward members, who were undergoing training at the Rythu Vedika, came out and noticed the girl who fell on a heap of sand, which saved her life.
The girl was rushed to the local PHC on a two-wheeler and later taken to the Government General Hospital in Khammam in an ambulance for better treatment. The teachers and staff breathed a sigh of relief as her life was not in danger.
Meanwhile, fellow students said that Sameera was suffering from severe headaches since Thursday night and was under mental stress due to fear of failing in the exams. College principal Venkata Padmavathi said a motivation class was held recently to help students overcome exam stress, yet the student was unable to deal with her stress.
