International Geo Diversity Day 2024 celebrated in Hyderabad
Deccan Heritage Academy Trust hosted a ‘Geo Heritage Trail’ and talk for International Geo Diversity Day 2024, emphasising conservation of geological sites at Fakhruddin Gutta, Khajaguda.

Hyderabad: Deccan Heritage Academy Trust (DHAT) in association with retired experts from the Geological Survey of India and Civil Society Groups organised a ‘Geo Heritage Trail’ followed by a talk on Geo Diversity on the occasion of International Geo Diversity Day 2024 with the theme “Theme: Conserving the Past – Sustaining the Future’ at Fakhruddin Gutta (Khaja Hills), Khajaguda, on Sunday.
Prof. Veda Kumar Manikonda, Chairman, Deccan Heritage Academy, Kamatham Mahender Reddy, Director (Retd.,) GSI, Sri Ramoju Haragopal, Kottha Telangana Charitra Brundam, Chakkilam Venugopal Rao, Dy. Director General (Retd.,) GSI, Soma Ram Murthy, Senior Scientist,(Retd.), Ramraj, landscape architect, Sakina, Save Rocks, Jajir Hussain, Member, Salarjung Museum, Vemuganti Murali Krishna, KTCB and Shobha Singh, Secretary,FBH.
Speaking on the occasion Vedakumar said the State Government should take steps to protect geo diversity sites by keeping in view the importance of the geological uniqueness by documenting, inventorising and conserving the sites for future generation and also ensure that these sites get official recognition from UNESCO.
Speakers expressed their concern at extinction of natural rock formation of million years old in lieu of development and strongly emphasised for preservation and conservation of various rock formations which are geological and physical elements of Nature.
