Hyderabad: Widespread internet outages caused by the power department’s cable-cutting drive have triggered numerous complaints of banking transaction failures across Hyderabad.
People are taking to social media to post screenshots of failed transactions and express frustration over financial chaos. A majority of the complaints relate to failed UPI payments, which made it difficult for people to complete purchases, including groceries and other essentials.
“I had to call my wife to make the payment from her UPI ID since mine was not going through. Even after she managed to pay, we did not receive an acknowledgement. The state government and power authorities should have properly planned before taking up this drive,” said a customer who faced difficulty while making a UPI payment.
Disruptions are also being reported at point-of-sale (POS) machines in stores and restaurants. Many shopkeepers and hotel managements are now insisting that customers pay in cash as digital wallets and card swipes are failing.
Industry experts noted that most commercial establishments depend on Wi-Fi, which in turn is linked to wired broadband internet. With connections severed, POS systems and digital payment terminals have become non-functional. The disruption has created a ripple effect, affecting daily commerce and causing financial losses to businesses and consumers alike.
