Interstate drug racket busted in Secunderabad, 21.4 kg marijuana seized
In a joint operation, the GRP, RPF, and Eagle Team apprehended a 20-year-old agricultural labourer at Secunderabad railway station for smuggling 21.4 kg of marijuana. The suspect was allegedly working for a drug network based in Andhra Pradesh.
Hyderabad: In a joint operation, the Secunderabad Government Railway Police (GRP), Eagle Team (TGANB), and Railway Protection Force (RPF) busted an interstate drug smuggling racket and arrested one person apart from seizing 21.4 kg of marijuana worth Rs 10.7 lakh.
The suspect P. Shiva (20), an agricultural labourer from Andhra Pradesh, was caught during surprise checks with the help of a narcotics dog at Secunderabad railway station. He was found carrying marijuana concealed in a trolley suitcase and a backpack, which he had collected from Visakhapatnam for delivery in Thane, Maharashtra.
Police said Shiva came into contact with Vijay Chandra alias Rolex (34), a key supplier from Andhra Pradesh and agreed to transport marijuana for Rs 5,000 per trip. He had earlier assisted in multiple consignments to Mumbai and Kalyan.
On this occasion, he was tasked with handing over the contraband to an associate, Ashish Kumar from Odisha, in Thane. Both Chandra and Ashish are currently absconding.
Along with marijuana, police also seized a mobile phone and journey ticket from Shiva.
Woman held for murder of 70-year-old relative in Saidabad
The Saidabad police arrested a 48-year-old woman for the murder of her 70-year-old relative, Katroth Shivaiah, and recovered stolen silver ornaments from her on Friday.
The suspect Nenavath Manga smothered and strangled Shivaiah while he was asleep in an under-construction house on September 15. She later stole his silver jewellery weighing about 30 tolas and concealed it in her house.
Police said Manga had long-standing disputes with the victim’s family over financial and personal issues. Angered by frequent quarrels and public humiliation, she decided to eliminate him.
Based on a complaint lodged by the victim’s daughter, the Saidabad police booked a case and seized evidence including a pillow, strangulation thread, and bloodstained articles.
The ornaments were recovered following Manga’s confession. She was produced before the court and remanded in judicial custody.
Man jailed for assaulting mother in Secunderabad
The Hyderabad Police booked and secured the imprisonment of a 40-year-old man for assaulting his mother under the influence of alcohol at Bholakpur in Secunderabad.
The victim approached DCP Central Zone K Shilpavalli and lodged a complaint stating that her son, N Taraka Rama Rao, a construction worker, assaulted her in an inebriated condition. Acting immediately, Gandhi Nagar police registered an e-petty case and filed a chargesheet.
The suspect was produced before a local court in Secunderabad, which sentenced him to 10 days imprisonment. Police said the punishment serves as a warning that violence or abuse against parents will not be tolerated.
