IPL 2025: Lucknow Super Giants rely on power-hitters as bowling concerns loom

Hyderabad: Rishabh Pant, Nicholas Pooran, David Miller, Aiden Markram and Mitchell Marsh. Names which can spell disaster for any bowling attack when they are on a song.

Well, if Lucknow Super Giants were to make a serious impact in the coming edition of IPL starting on March 22, this line-up has to explode. There is no doubting their ability to combine class, power and precision in any given conditions.

With Pant, the costliest player in the IPL this season bought at a whopping Rs 27 crores, leading the challenge, LSG’s fortunes hinge around the brilliance of these batters.

With serious doubts persisting about the fitness levels of star bowlers Mayank Yadav, Akash Deep and even Avesh Khan, the onus will be clearly on the batting line-up which, perhaps, after the Sunrisers Hyderabad, has the most imposing look, at least on paper. West Indian speedster Shamar Joseph will have to really make a big impact for LSG.

The fact that all-rounder Shardul Thakur and Shivam Mavi are being tipped to get a contract can also suggest the kind of desperation the LSG camp is in to shore up the bowling attack.

So, it is imperative for the batters to fire all guns blazing to give the bowling attack, whichever one LSG eventually manages to eventually field, the right cushion to attack or defend.

The spin department is in the safe and capable hands of leggie Ravi Bishnoi and left-armer Shabhaz Ahmed, who have repeatedly shown their efficacy even when challenged by the best of the batters. Will Abdul Samad will get a chance can also be another big question in LSG’s campaign.

It will be interesting to see how Pant will approach the leadership and how much of an influence he will have as a captain and as a batter.
