Hyderabad: An Assistant Director from the Information and Public Relations (I&PR) Department was allegedly threatened by police and denied entry into Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s residence in New Delhi on Saturday.
I&PR Assistant Director Harsha Bhargavi, who recently took charge as the State’s Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) in New Delhi, had gone to the Chief Minister’s residence to pay a courtesy visit. However, police personnel stopped her at the gate and refused permission to enter, despite her identifying herself as a government employee.
Bhargavi told the police that some of her colleagues had already been allowed inside, but the officials insisted she wait at the gate, citing security reasons. When she questioned their conduct, she was allegedly threatened with arrest and asked to move away from the entrance.
In a video circulated in the media, Bhargavi is seen in tears while informing her superiors about the incident. “I am standing outside on the road far from the Chief Minister’s residence. But the police are asking me to leave the place. I am a regular government employee. What is my mistake, and why should they arrest me? They entered my details in the register and asked me to wait till the vehicle arrives,” she said in the video.
The situation eased after media personnel arrived at the spot and intervened. The police reportedly verified her identity card before allowing her to leave.
