IT employees to be fully vaccinated by October in Telangana
The IT industry in Hyderabad employs more than 6.5 lakh people out of which only 10 per cent have returned to their workplace with 90 per cent of them working from home
Hyderabad: The IT industry through partnerships with various associations has been conducting vaccination drives for the employees and their families. And in the last ten days of such drives, close to one lakh IT employees and their families have been vaccinated and this, according to experts, will drive the return to office scenario in the sector. The IT industry in Hyderabad employs more than 6.5 lakh people out of which only 10 per cent have returned to their workplace with 90 per cent of them working from home.
“Along with our association, the Hyderabad Software Employees Association (Hysea) and TiE Hyderabad have taken up many vaccination drives along with many corporates conducting individual vaccination programmes for their employees. While we have tied up with Medicover to hold a vaccination drive, Hysea has partnered with Apollo Hospitals. In the last 10 days I would say close to one lakh IT employees have been vaccinated through these various drives being conducted,” Krishna Yedula, General Secretary, SCSC told Telangana Today.
Echoing similar views, Hysea president Bharani Kumar Aroll informed that the vaccination programmes for IT employees have been going at full speed and while many member companies are using the support of associations like theirs to get their employees vaccinated, a few large companies are holding their standalone drives/programmes.
“We are hopeful that by October or November, the majority of IT employees will be vaccinated with both doses. And keeping that timeline in mind, we are also hopeful that IT companies – mainly large enterprises – will look at the return to workplace strategy only by year-end. Every day about 5,000-10,000 IT employees are getting vaccinated at these drives,” said Aroll.
With a majority of the professionals working in the IT sector being below the age of 45, Aroll is of the view that the free vaccination programme announced by the Centre will help them in expediting the process of vaccination in the coming months. “Having said that, we are also looking at helping small and medium IT enterprises to get their employees vaccinated in another special drive that we are planning in the coming months,” he said.
