Kothagudem: Tension prevailed at the ITC PSPD factory at Sarapaka in Burgampadu mandal in the district on Monday as workers took to the streets in support of their pending demands.

The INTUC and its allied unions called for the protest, demanding the immediate implementation of the 14th Wage Agreement. Expressing outrage over the management’s alleged delay in implementing the wage agreement, a large number of workers wearing black badges staged a sit-in demonstration near the administrative block.

Labour leaders and workers raised slogans, demanding the immediate enforcement of the wage agreement. They made it clear that there was no question of halting their struggle until the issue was resolved.

It may be noted that, under the aegis of the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of labour unions, the workers have been staging protests for the past few days at the ITC factory. They demanded the resolution of pending issues related to the 13th Wage Agreement and the formulation of a 14th Wage Agreement that is acceptable to the workers.

The protesting workers wanted the management to ensure a minimum wage of Rs 22,000 per month and the introduction of a 100 per cent unlimited medical scheme for all employees. They also sought the resolution of pending issues of the 13th Wage Agreement, such as the construction of a shuttle court, a gymnasium, and new residential quarters for workers.

The leaders warned that if the demands remain unfulfilled, both the recognised union and the management would be held responsible for any adverse actions taken by the Workers’ JAC.
