Kothagudem: The Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA), Bhadrachalam has brought up specially designed workbooks for students studying in the tribal welfare department run primary schools.

The workbooks, titled ‘Vuddipakam’ for the subjects English and Mathematics, have been prepared with the initiative of the ITDA project officer B Rahul. They are aimed at serving as stimulators for the tribal students to learn the tasks such as addition, multiplication, subtraction and division topics through figures as well as English.

They are designed to lay a strong foundation at primary level as part of the ‘hundred-day plan’ by the expert teachers. Three mathematics teachers and four English teachers worked for ten days under the supervision of special staff in preparing the workbooks, ITDA Academic and Community Mobilisation Officer at Project Monitoring and Resource Cell (PMRC), T Ramanaiah Ramanaiah told Telangana Today.

The project officer Rahul said that during random inspections it came to his notice that students studying in primary schools are lagging behind in reading and writing in English as well as four basic mathematics calculations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.

The workbooks have been designed in a way that they would make it easy to understand the subjects for the students. The concerned teachers have been directed to teach the students every day using the workbooks to strengthen their basic learning skills in English and mathematics.

The workbooks have been distributed to as many as 5, 598 students studying in the primary schools of erstwhile Khammam district. The workbooks would prove beneficial for the tribal students to excel in their studies in the future, Rahul added.
