Hyderabad: Traveltech company Ixigo (Le Travenues Technology), which acquired Hyderabad-based bus-ticketing platform Abhibus in August is keen to deepen its presence in the bus ticketing segment as well as Hyderabad market.
Abhibus is the second largest online travel agency in the bus segment, with 10 per cent market share. Ixigo has 100 employees at Abhibus’s Hyderabad office and plans to expand the team soon. There are plans to invest in technology in the bus category. Hyderabad has shown high rates of digital payment adoption for the platform and remains a key market, sources said.
Besides strengthening its base in Hyderabad, the company aims to establish its presence in major markets of south, particularly the tier-1 markets. There will also be focus on localisation of content across markets in south and pan-India.
Launched in 2007 by Aloke Bajpai and Rajnish Kumar, Ixigo is a technology company that assists travellers in making travel decisions by leveraging artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning and data science-led innovations and has separate apps to book trains, buses and flights and their multi-app strategy has allowed them to be relevant to both metros and tier II/III/IV travellers.
At the end of fiscal 2021, Ixigo trains and ConfirmTkt were collectively the major B2C distribution platforms for IRCTC with 42 per cent market share in terms of rail booking among OTAs and B2C distributors of IRCTC. Ixigo was the third largest Indian flight OTA with a market share of 12 per cent in the total OTA airline market in volume terms in fiscal 2021.
With the ‘next billion users’ likely to utilise voice-based commands over text and majority of the internet searches in non-tier I cities being done on voice and gesture-based commands, Ixigo intends to introduce more voice enabled features on its platforms, particularly for its use cases as well as on their AI driven personal travel assistant, TARA.
The company expects to continue to evaluate strategic partnerships, investments, and acquisitions in the future. From the funds that the company plans to raise through an IPO, the company intends to utilise a part of gross proceeds towards running promotions targeting first-time train, bus, and flight bookings.
