Hyderabad: BRS MLA and former Minister G Jagadish Reddy condemned Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s remarks against the Kaleshwaram project, accusing the Congress government of pursuing a political campaign at the cost of Telangana’s water security. He said former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao created a historic opportunity for Telangana through the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme, but the government was attempting to discredit the project for political reasons.
Addressing a press conference at Telangana Bhavan, Jagadish Reddy said the State could face a drinking water crisis due to the impact of a Super El Nino. He stated that the government was ignoring warnings from retired engineers who were speaking in the interest of Telangana. He criticised the Chief Minister for reportedly threatening action against retired engineers and termed the campaign against the Medigadda barrage misleading propaganda.
The senior BRS leader took strong exception to Revanth Reddy’s reported remarks about spilling the blood of BRS leaders. He said Telangana statehood was achieved through numerous sacrifices and asserted that BRS leaders were prepared to make any sacrifice for Telangana and its farmers.
Jagadish Reddy dismissed claims that Bhadrachalam would face danger due to the Kaleshwaram project and challenged Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy to a public debate on the issue. He alleged that citing power costs to avoid lifting water for irrigation amounted to a crime against farmers.
