Nalgonda: Energy Minister G Jagadish Reddy on Monday urged farmers to select crops for cultivation based on market demand.

Releasing water to right and left canals of the Musi project for irrigation facility for Vaanakalam crop season, he said farmers should take the advice of agriculture officials in selecting crops and seeds for cultivation. “These two are the main factors to improve farmers’ incomes,” he added.

Stating that Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao was striving hard for utilisation of every drop of water in Telangana’s share in Krishna and Godavari rivers, the Minister said he was also keen on providing irrigation facilities to every acre of cultivable land in the State. In addition to completing pending projects, the State government has taken up new irrigation projects in the last six years for the purpose, he added.

Nakrekal MLA Chirumarthi Lingaiah, Suryapet Municipal Chairperson Perumalla Annapurnamma and others have also attended the programme.

Musi project receives good inflows

Meanwhile, Musi project, a medium irrigation scheme, saw increased inflows of 1790.35 cusecs following rains in the upper areas in the last two days.

The project, located near Boppram of Kethepally mandal in the district, has 40,000 acres under its ayacut along the right canal and left canal in the erstwhile Nalgonda district.

The water level in the project touched 640.79 feet against its full reservoir level of 645 feet. The current water storage in the project was 3.40 tmc against a full storage capacity of 4.46 tmcs.
season. The ancient Kanagal Kathwa in the district was also overflowing following heavy rains.
