Hyderabad: Former minister and BRS MLA G Jagadish Reddy has accused Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy of turning Telangana into a “surveillance State,” with his own Cabinet colleagues being afraid of phone-tapping by their own leader.
He said ever since the government’s phone-tapping row was exposed, one Minister had already switched to an old model phone to escape the alleged snooping which triggered distrust within the Congress ranks.
“Revanth Reddy fears that he would lose his post. Hence, he is tapping phones of his Cabinet colleagues. But we want him to continue in the post for full-term, such that the Congress never returns to power in near future,” he said.
Addressing a press conference here on Sunday, Jagadish Reddy targeted Revanth Reddy’s flip-flops, accusing him of insulting the legacy of late Congress leader S Jaipal Reddy.
“Revanth Reddy once said Jaipal Reddy never spoke for Telangana statehood, but now he claims Telangana State was realised because of the late Congress leader. He is using Jaipal Reddy for his own political gains,” he said, adding that the veteran leader had correctly judged Revanth Reddy’s character and kept the latter away during his lifetime.
He cited another instance of Revanth Reddy’s duplicity. While the Chief Minister claimed to have never suspended any opposition MLA under the current Congress regime from the Assembly, he recalled his suspension from the previous Assembly session.
On allegations of BRS merger talks with BJP, Jagadish Reddy insisted that party chief K Chandrashekhar Rao would never align with the BJP. He reminded that both the parties were have fundamentally opposite ideologies. He stated that the BRS-BJP merger allegations were purely scripted by Revanth Reddy and his mentor N Chandrababu Naidu, to weaken BRS and divert public attention from real issues.
“BRS stands for Telangana’s self-respect, and KCR will remain pivotal in shaping national politics. There is no question of merging BRS with any party or approaching middlemen like CM Ramesh to mediate,” he asserted.
