Suryapet: Launching a blistering attack on the Congress government and a section of the media, former Minister and senior BRS leader G Jagadish Reddy on Sunday accused them of running a coordinated smear campaign against BRS president K Chandrashekhar Rao and working president K T Rama Rao.

Addressing party workers here, Reddy alleged that certain media houses, instead of practising journalism, were functioning as “slaughterhouses” targeting BRS leaders.

“Some media houses are not media houses; they are slaughterhouses,” he said, warning that BRS cadre would not remain silent if the attacks continued.

“If we retaliate, you won’t be able to withstand it. For the past one-and-a-half years, conspiracies have been hatched against our leader using the media as a shield. We will not spare those who trouble us,” he declared.

The former Minister claimed that the smear campaign was a result of political vendetta fuelled by resentment towards KCR’s role in achieving Telangana statehood. He accused the Congress government led by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu of being part of this conspiracy.

“The separation of Telangana from Andhra Pradesh still haunts them. That is why they are resorting to conspiracies against Chandrashekhar Rao,” Reddy said.

He refuted allegations of a BRS attack on Mahaa News channel, calling it a “protest, not an assault,” and demanded an unconditional apology from the channel’s management to KCR and KTR.

“If you think you can hide behind the media and spew abuses, you’re mistaken. Like Bin Laden, no matter where you hide, we will find you and hold you accountable,” he warned.

Turning to governance issues, Reddy criticised the Congress government’s performance, calling its 18-month rule a “failure in all sectors.” He said the administration’s inability to respond to the water crisis in Suryapet had resulted in severe distress among farmers.

“Crops are withering, seeds are failing. Empty promises won’t bring water,” he said, urging the government to immediately activate the Kannepalli pumps to ensure irrigation supply to farmers.
