Amaravati: Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy has called for measures to make the Visakhapatnam beach corridor–connecting the National Highway no. 16 to Visakhapatnam port via Bheemunipatnam and Bhogapuram, as a world no. 1 project.
Participating in the road safety council meeting here on Monday, he directed the officials to take special care on road design and complete the project as early as possible to facilitate traffic to Bhogapuram international airport, for, quite a few tourism projects were in the pipeline along the corridor.
At present there were restrictions on movement of civil flights at Visakhapatnam airport which made it difficult for night landing there, he noted, and said that the beach corridor should be accorded top priority on that score.
The Chief Minister who approved of setting up road safety lead agency and road safety fund in the state, referred to the present poor condition of the highways in the state and suggested steps to be taken to improve them.
He suggested cashless treatment for road accident victims and support to those who brought the injured in the accidents to hospitals. He called for encouraging network hospitals and said steps should be taken to ensure that the accident victims got the insurance benefit.
