Amaravati: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy has appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to provide 60 lakh doses of vaccine in the wake of surging COVID cases in the state.

In a letter addressed to Modi on Friday, he revealed that as many as 6,28,961 doses of vaccine were administered on a single day as part of ‘Tika Utsav’, which was high compared to any other State in the country.

This was made possible thanks to the village and ward volunteer system in Andhra Pradesh, with each volunteer taking care of the requirements of 50 families locally, he noted. Vaccine drive was being handed by the volunteers with efficacy in Andhra Pradesh, ensuring all those
eligible got it, he added.

Jagan said that in the next three weeks, every person above 45 years of age in the state would be given the vaccine, and urged the Prime Minister to provide 60 lakh doses to meet the target.
