Jagital: Karate players from the district boycotted the Chief Minister’s Cup State level competitions being held at the Kotla Vijayabhaskar Reddy stadium in Yousufguda in Hyderabad.
They boycotted the competitions alleging discrimination against rural players. Stating that people from Andhra Pradesh were standing as referees and in-charges, they said the competition appeared to be more of a Andhra CM event than a Telangana CM event.
Speaking to Telangana Today, A Pavan Kumar of Pavan Karate Academy, Jagtial, alleged that referees, were discriminating against rural players, and helping students who are known to them. One of his students, D Shiva Kumar was initially declared as winner.
However, after three hours, he was declared as having lost. When questioned, organizers informed that Shiva Kumar was mistakenly declared as winner. Shiva Kumar took part in the competition in 14-15 years category on Tuesday.
Instead of delivering judgement immediately, they were delaying it to help students known to them, he alleged, adding that the draw sheets of competitions held in different categories were kept hidden from the participants.
