Jagtial: Stating that the massive participation of farmers and the public in Jagtial BRS MLA K Sanjay Kumar‘s Rythu Padayatra on Tuesday was just the trailer, former Minister and Siddipet MLA T Harish Rao said the full length 70 mm cinema would soon be shown to the Congress government.
Participating in the padayatra taken out from Korutla to Jagtial by Dr Sanjay Kumar demanding the State government to fulfill its promises made to farmers, Harish Rao recollected the Jagtial Jaitrayatra, pointing out that there would no Telangana person who had not heard about the Jaitrayatra. With Sanjay Kumar having sounded the battle bugle in Jagtial, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy should open his eye at least now, he said.
The Chief Minister cheated all sections of the people and except for using abusive language, had not done a single work that was useful for the people, Harish Rao said, adding that before joining the padayatra, he had visited Vemulawada shrine and prayed to the presiding deity to forgive Revanth Reddy and protect the people.
Farmers were asking Revanth Reddy to lift the loads of paddy that were piling up in paddy procurement centres. However, he was busy sending money in loads to Maharashtra. He had earlier fixed August 15 to waive all crop loans and then extended it to Dasara. Now, he has fixed another date coinciding with AICC leader Sonia Gandhi’s birthday, he said, adding that nearly 20 lakh farmers were still waiting for waiver of their crop loans. Before elections, the Congress promised to provide Rs 500 per quintal as bonus to all varieties of paddy. After coming to power, it changed its voice stating that only the fine variety would be eligible for the bonus. However, so far, not a single farmer was provided even that bonus.
During the BRS regime, former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao used to conduct meetings before the beginning of the procurement process and provide all arrangements. Now, the farmers were forced to sell in distress to rice millers and middlemen due to lack of minimum support price and bonus at procurement centres. Instead of the Rs.2320 fixed as MSP by the Centre, farmers were selling their produce at Rs 1800 to Rs 1900 per quintal, Harish Rao said, also questioning when the State government would provide the Rs.15000 Rythu Bharosa to farmers.
Earlier, Sanjay Kumar started the 25 km padayatra from Korutla after taking blessings from his parents. Former Minister and Balkonda MLA Vemula Prashanth Reddy formally flagged off the padayatra. BRS district president and former MLA Vidyasagar Rao, former ZP Chairperson Tula Uma, farmers, BRS workers and others participated in the padayatra in a big way. It culminated in a massively attended meeting at Jagtial.
