Visakhapatnam: A ‘Jail Bharo’ programme to oppose privatisation of Visakhapatnam steel plant, was organised successfully in the city at four places on Sunday.
Rallies by all-party trade unions and people’s organisations from the Gandhi statue opposite the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation to II Town police station via RTc Complex, LIC of India building, and Dabagardens, and another from the steel plant gate to Old Gajuwaka in the city, besides two other rallies within the limits of Pendurthi and Bheemunipatnam police stations with large gatherings were organised on the day.
The participants raised `Save Public Sector, Save India’ slogans against sale of the steel plant.
Film actor and director R. Narayana Murthy who participated in the cultural programmes organised to mark the 365-day relay fasts in the steel township, called for intensifying the agitation to stall privatisation of the steel plant.
