Jail warder named accused no. 2 in burglary case for aiding thief’s bail

Dubbak police in Siddipet have booked a Nizamabad jail warder for allegedly helping a habitual burglar secure bail in exchange for a share of stolen property. Police recovered the stolen valuables and suspended the warder, while probing the role of other policemen.

Siddipet: In a rare case, Dubbak police made a jail warder Gopal, working in Nizamabad Jail, as an accused person in a theft case on charges of helping a burglar to get bail from the jail. Following a massive theft case reported under Dubbak police station limits, the seasoned burglar Chikkudu Krishna alias Vengali Bikshapathi (37), looted the house of one Chintha Raj Kumar on June 28.

Raj Kumar’s family was on a pilgrimage when the incident happened. The accused broke open the windows to enter and opened the locker inside the house He then decamped with 800 grams of gold ornaments and 5.5 kgs silver ornaments.


Following a complaint, the Commissioner of Police Rashmi Perumal constituted six teams, which travelled across Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Tracking nearly 500 CCTV cameras, the police nabbed the accused and recovered the ornaments.

During the preliminary inquiry, the accused confessed that he took the help of the warder Gopal, when he was in Nizamabad jail. The sources associated with the investigation said that the accused reportedly struck a deal with warder to share the stolen property if he helped him to walk free from the jail.

The police recovered 800 grams of gold ornaments, 5.5kgs of silver ornaments, Rs 1,300 cash and rold gold ornaments. The warder, who skipped duties after the police found his involvement, was absconding. The prisons department has suspended him from the duties as an immediate measure.

Meanwhile, the Siddipet police were also suspecting the involvement of two more policemen in the incident. Another jail warder and an AR constable also reportedly assisted the accused in the past. As many as 63 cases were registered against Bikshapathi under different police stations across the Telangana. The accused, who was produced before the court, was remanded.
