Warangal: As part of the Green India Challenge launched by Rajya Sabha member Joginapally Santosh Kumar, a sapling of the ‘State Tree’ Jammi Chettu (Prosopis Cineraria) was planted at Bhadrakali temple here on Saturday by Government Chief Whip Dasyam Vinay Bhaskar in the presence of temple chief priest Shesaiah and others.
Later, the MLA distributed the Jammi saplings to the priests of the various temples in the city and urged them to plant and protect the Jammi Chettu. It may be recalled here that this novel initiative is being done as a part of the upcoming Dasara festivities.

Speaking on the occasion, Vinay Bhaskar said that it was decided to plant the Jammi Chettu also known as Shamic Vruksham at each and every temple and village across the State. “The State government under the the visionary leadership of Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao is striving to improve the green cover in the State with the implementation of the Haritha Haram programme. On other hand, MP Santosh Kumar has launched this innovative campaign called Green India Challenge to make the people aware of the importance of the trees by involving the officials, politicians, social activists and celebrities in the film and other industries,” he added.

Green India Challenge co-founder Raghava, Padmakshi temple priest Shankaracharya, local corporator Devarakonda Vijayalakshmi Surender, other priests, public representatives and TRS party leaders attended the programme.
