Jangaon: District Collector Ch Shivalingaih has urged workers in the unorganised sector in the district to register their names with the e-SHRAM portal of the Union Ministry of Labor and Employment to avail benefits from various schemes.
In a press release here on Thursday, he said the initiative was launched on August 26 and the registration can be done free of cost at the designated centres. “Enrollment in the scheme is for agriculture, allied sectors, employment guarantee workers, small scale farmers, farm labourers, horticulturists, nursery workers, dairy wage workers, joint cultivators, fishermen, building allied construction workers, well digging, handloom workers, carpenters, newspaper vendors, dairy workers, Asha, Anganwadi workers and rickshaw workers,” he said, adding that all those involved in animal husbandry, beedi rolling workers, etc., can also register their names.
“Every worker enrolled in the scheme will be provided accident insurance/disability insurance of Rs two lakh free of cost for one year under the Prime Minister’s Security Insurance Scheme (PMSBY),” he said and added that the workers between the ages of 16 and 59 who have not paid income tax and do not have access to EPF and ESI are eligible to join the scheme.
“In addition to free registration at the centres, one can also register through the website http://register.eshram.gov.in through a smartphone,” he said, and urged every unorganized would be given a 12-digit Unique Identity Card (UAN) by enrolling in the scheme, which would cover all types of social security schemes and various welfare schemes offered by the government. He said the registration information would help the government in formulating social policies and schemes. He said it would track the labour force of migrant workers and contribute to the creation of employment opportunities for them.
