One of the much-anticipated movies, Jathi Ratnalu, starring Naveen Polishetty, Rahul Ramakrishna and Priyadarshi, has just released in theatres.
Director Anudeep KV is elated by the response the movie is garnering in all the centres. A break that has been eluding the director for nearly five long years. “Like the three funny characters in the movie, I don’t take much pressure in any circumstances. I gave my best in the making, and the rest lies in the hands of audiences,” says the Sangareddy-born director.
Anudeep made his debut as a director with the Telugu movie Pittagoda, which tells a similar story of lazy friends in the neighbourhood of Ramagundam. Like Pittagoda, his latest movie Jathi Ratnalu, too, has the potential to evoke laughter, he says. “Jathi Ratnalu is about three innocent guys played by the trio — Naveen, Rahul and Priyadarshi. Having no knowledge about the outside world, they find themselves in a serious crime. Dumb as one could ever imagine, how the three friends evoke laughter unknowingly by poking fun at strangers. They don’t do hilarious comedy but every act of theirs evokes laughter,” he says.

The story of Jathi Ratnalu came into being after Anudeep was approached by filmmaker Nag Ashwin. “It was 10 years ago. Nag Ashwin seriously wanted to collaborate with me after watching one of my short-films. So we chanced upon weaving a story taking these dumb characters as a prelude. So gradually, Nag preferred Naveen Polishetty for the character of Jogipet Srikanth. We then tested several actors for the other two roles. Later, we zeroed in on Priyadarshi and Rahul Ramakrishna,” he says.
Anudeep says it was fun working with Nag Ashwin and the entire cast and crew on the sets. “Nag Ashwin was humble that he gives everyone that comfort in discharging duties. There was never any issue about who had the final say. His inputs were as valuable as mine,” he quips adding that “Amazon Prime offered an unimaginable sum but our intention was to release Jathi Ratnalu in theatres to give audiences an out-and-out laugh riot.”
