Hyderabad: Students who appeared for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced 2025 conducted by the IIT-Kanpur on Sunday found the Paper- II to be tough to crack with the mathematics section being the most challenging and tough, as it required lengthy calculations. However, the IIT aspirants described the Paper-I questions as moderate on difficulty levels.

The IIT aspirants reported that mathematics, physics and chemistry in Paper-II had lengthy questions that consumed time. This time, 16 questions were asked per subject with 48 questions each in Papers-I and II for a total of 360 marks. Earlier, Papers-I and II had 17 or 18 questions per subject.

Both Papers-I and II focused more on numerical valued-based questions as six and eight questions respectively were asked from this area.

“Compared to Paper-I, I found Paper-II to be toughest. The mathematics questions, particularly the numerical value-based ones, were tough. But, overall, the examination went well,” said Piyush, an IIT aspirant who took the test in the city.

According to Sri Chaitanya All-India IIT Coordinator Uma Shankar, Paper-II was tough and Paper-I was moderate on difficulty levels. Question paper difficulty levels were on the similar lines of the JEE Advanced conducted by IIT Kanpur in 2011 and 2018. Unlike in the past exams where chemistry and mathematics were tough and physics questions were moderate on difficulty levels, this time questions in three subjects were tough, he said.

“There are more numerical value-based questions, particularly in Paper-II, consuming more time. Students who perfectly attempt numerical value-based questions, which do not have negative scoring, stand a chance to get good ranks. Students scoring 300 or above marks can achieve a rank in top 10,” he added
