Jeevan Reddy demands lifting of Godavari water from Annaram, Sundilla barrages

BRS general secretary T Jeevan Reddy has demanded that the State government lift Godavari water through the Annaram and Sundilla barrages to meet irrigation and drinking needs, citing delays in repairs to the Medigadda barrage.

Hyderabad: BRS general secretary T Jeevan Reddy demanded that the State government immediately lift Godavari River water through the Annaram and Sundilla barrages to meet irrigation and drinking water needs. He said repairs to the Medigadda barrage could take time, but water could be lifted from Annaram and Sundilla in the meantime as indicated by Central agencies.

Speaking at Telangana Bhavan on Sunday, Jeevan Reddy alleged that the Congress government had failed to undertake even minor repairs to the three Kaleshwaram barrages in nearly three years since assuming office. He said large quantities of river water were flowing into the sea even as farmers and people were facing shortages. He pointed to a Central government report suggesting lifting Pranahita River water from the Kannepalli pump house through Annaram and Sundilla to Yellampalli.

He said Yellampalli had about 20 TMCft of water and the system could also facilitate lifting water to the Sri Ram Sagar Project (SRSP). With SRSP having about 46 TMCft, he said water could be lifted from downstream to fill the reservoir and facilitate the Rabi crop. He urged Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy to act immediately.

The BRS leader said the government was not utilising available water and forcing people to face unnecessary hardships. He also questioned the delay in implementing the Tummidihatti project proposed by the Congress government, pointing out that three years and three budgets had passed.
