Jevula Thanda villagers stage protest over month-long water shortage in Sangareddy
Villagers of Jevula Thanda in Sangareddy staged a rasta roko protesting a month-long drinking water shortage, forcing residents to fetch water from distant sources and disrupting livelihoods amid inaction from Mission Bhagiratha officials.
Sangareddy: Reminiscent of the days before Telangana state formation, water supply woes have gripped the villages in this district. Even as the temperature soared, lack of drinking water supply for over a month forced the villagers of Jevula Thanda to stage a rasta-roko in Sirgapur mandal on Saturday.
Even after repeated appeals and complaints, the mission Bhagiratha officials have failed to respond, forcing the residents to take to the streets.
The villagers have been fetching water from far-off places every day. Some of them have fetched water from agriculture bore-wells while some of them were travelling to neighbouring villages. Since most of the inhabitants were farmers, they needed a huge amount of water to feed the cattle and livestock every day.
The residents have been spending most of their day’s time on getting water, which was impacting their work. They demanded the officials resolve the issue with immediate effect. Unless, they threatened to intensify their protest.
