Jilted lover held for knife attack on woman’s family in Raidurgam

A 22‑year‑old man was arrested in Hyderabad’s Raidurgam after allegedly attacking five members of a family with a knife following rejection of his advances by a young woman. Local residents intervened and handed him over to police.

Hyderabad: A 22-year-old man was arrested by the police after allegedly attacking five members of a family with a knife at Endla Basti in Raidurgam on Friday.

According to police, the suspect, K Govardhan, had been harassing a 20-year-old woman, under the pretext of love. Angered after she rejected his advances, he allegedly trespassed into her house in the morning and threatened the family with a knife.

When the woman’s family members tried to stop him, the suspect allegedly launched a violent assault, injuring the woman, her parents, sister, and her uncle, who rushed to their rescue.

Local residents, alerted by the victims’ cries for help, overpowered the attacker and handed him over to police. All the injured victims were shifted to hospital and are reported to be out of danger.

Based on a complaint, Raidurgam police registered a case of attempt to murder and arrested the suspect. The case is under investigation.
