Hyderabad: Take a semester break and try your hand at entrepreneurship?
In an innovative opportunity, this is what Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University-Hyderabad (JNTU-H) is offering its students who aspire to become entrepreneurs while studying itself.
As part of the new initiative of the varsity, BTech students will be permitted to take a break from the programme to initiate start-up ventures or product development etc.
Such students will be accorded permission to take a break from study for a maximum of two semesters, preferably in one academic year.
The new initiative of the university will come into the effect from this academic year itself. However, in order to be eligible for a break from study, students have to successfully complete all courses listed out in the first four semesters.
Students wishing to withdraw from the programme temporarily have to request for the same with ample evidence detailing the seriousness of the venture. This request has to be submitted to the college principal concerned for approval.
This apart, students will also be allowed to take a break from the study on serious health reasons. However, this has to be approved by the principal of the college concerned.
All such cases of a break from the study are to be reported to the University and approved by the Vice Chancellor, the JNTU-H recently said.
Earlier this year, the JNTU-H had announced the launch of the University Student Start-Up Policy under which students will be allowed to work on innovation prototypes/problem validation, case study reports, projects on open-ended problems besides participating in social entrepreneurship right from the first year to earn credits equivalent to a mini-project.
For major projects, students will be permitted to work in incubators and TBIs, MSME centres, empanelled/recognized by the university.
The policy also gives an opportunity for students to apply for special electives in place of open electives as required by the entrepreneurs.
