JNTU-Hyderabad EC ratifies Jaya Laxmi as Registrar amid row

Hyderabad: After a row over the alleged intervention of the State government in the appointment of the JNTU-Hyderabad Registrar, with the Vice Chancellor reportedly resisting a move to change the appointment, the University Executive Council (EC) on Tuesday ratified the appointment of Prof. A Jaya Laxmi as Registrar.
The EC also ratified the appointment of CSE professor A Damodaram as Rector.
The issue stemmed from JNTU-Hyderabad Vice Chancellor Prof. T Kishen Kumar Reddy’s appointment of Prof. A Jaya Laxmi, an EEE professor, as Registrar. However, Prof. K Venkateshwara Rao, the previous Registrar, was reportedly in the race for the post again.
The government’s alleged direction to the Vice Chancellor to remove the incumbent Registrar, coupled with the Vice Chancellor’s reported refusal to do so, has turned the issue into a face-off between the government and the Vice Chancellor.
During the 77th Executive Council meeting chaired by the Vice Chancellor, the EC approved a proposal for the establishment of a new Government Engineering College in Madhira constituency of Khammam district. It also approved the transfer of administrative control of the Government Engineering College, Kosgi, to JNTU-Hyderabad as a constituent college.
The EC also approved the detailed report of the 64th Standing Committee meeting of the Academic Senate to be submitted to the government for sanction of teaching and non-teaching posts for JNTU-Hyderabad’s constituent colleges and the release of recurring and non-recurring expenditure.
The EC ratified the university’s agreement with Bajaj Auto Foundation for the establishment of Bajaj Engineering Skills Training (BEST) Labs.
