Hyderabad: The Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU) – Hyderabad on Thursday students have raised serious concerns over poor maintenance and lack of basic facilities in the university hostels for both girls and boys.
Hostel inmates complained about dirty and unhygienic water being dispensed from the water filters that went defunct. They also complained about poor maintenance of washrooms and bathrooms, with non-functional toilets/commodes and absence of adequate running water.
In a representation submitted to JNTU-Hyderabad University College of Engineering Hyderabad principal Dr. G Venkata Narasimha Reddy, Students Protection Forum representatives highlighted the issue of overcrowding in the hostel rooms, with around 10 students accommodated in a single room.
Apart from lack of basic facilities such as chairs, tables and proper lighting in study halls, students raised the issue regarding the quality and hygiene of hostel food.
Students urged the university authorities to ensure clean drinking water, proper sanitation, functional toilets, adequate water supply, hygienic food, and proper room accommodation.
