Hyderabad: A total of 1,19,106 UG, PG and PhD degrees and 95 gold medals will be awarded for the academic years 2019-20 and 2020-21 during X convocation of the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University-Hyderabad (JNTU-H) here on Saturday.

Of the total degrees that are to be awarded, 98,086 are BTech, 6,451 BPharm, 6,686 MBA, 3,748 MTech, and 1,677 MPharm degrees.


Governor Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan, who is also Chancellor of the JNTU-Hyderabad, will take part in the convocation ceremony. Secretary to the Department of Science and Technology Dr. Srivari Chandrasekhar will deliver the convocation address and will be conferred Doctor of Philosophy (Honoris Causa) during the ceremony.

Addressing a press conference here on Friday, JNTU-Hyderabad Vice Chancellor, Prof. Katta Narasimha Reddy said the varsity was starting new undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in view of the golden jubilee year of the university.

Board of studies meetings were conducted in 2020 and 2021 to frame syllabus for eight new undergraduate, two postgraduate and two-year MCA programmes, he said, adding that the university is also offering BTech degree with honors and minor in emerging multidisciplinary areas.

Out of 258 affiliated colleges under ambit of the university, 59 colleges were accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) and 59 colleges were accredited by the National Board of Accreditation. This year, two undergraduate and nine postgraduate programmes of the University College of Engineering, Hyderabad, JNTU-H, went for the NBA renewal, he explained.

The JNTU-H VC said the old buildings on the campus were being renovated and the university also took up construction work of several buildings to meet the demand for new departments, courses and hostels.
The varsity was sanctioned grants from the UGC, AICTE, DST, DRDO and ISRO for research projects worth Rs.12.37 crore, he said, adding that two-startups from the university have been shortlisted to receive investments to the tune of Rs.1 crore from the J-Venture by USA JNTU-H alumni.

On the placements, so far, 459 students were placed in the current academic year with average salary of Rs.4.47 lakh per annum while the highest package was Rs.41 lakh per annum, he added.
